I'm the Executive Director for the Down Syndrome Information Alliance. Right now it is a part-time gig, but I am full-time passionate for this community and so I'm dreaming BIG and wanting to grow this incredible organization. My daughter, June, is 8 years old and has Down syndrome. We adopted June from China because we know just how incredible that extra 21st chromosome can be. Down syndrome is a genetic abnormality, when three copies of the 21st chromosome are made at the very beginning of life. There is no known cause or factor in the development of Down syndrome and it happens within every ethnicity on earth. In America, about every 1 in 700 babies born will have Down syndrome. It is my belief that Down syndrome is a gift and not a burden and I seek to spread that message through my daughter and my work!
The Down Syndrome Information Alliance which serves 8 Northern California counties, empowering individuals with Down syndrome, their families, and the community with resources and information. The Alliance seeks to provide healthcare professionals, educators, and businesses the tools to create a more inclusive and compassionate environment for people with ALL abilities.
The Step Up for Down Syndrome Walk brings together 1000 walkers of all abilities for one mile of hope, inspiration, and joy. October is Down Syndrome Awareness month, so join Allison and her team on Sunday, October 13th, at 9am in William Land Park for the most fun you can have walking one mile.
Your registration is a donation to the Down Syndrome Information Alliance and the funds collected will provide services and resources to hundreds of families and individuals with Down syndrome for a full year! We'd love for you to join the June Platoon, Allie's fundraising walk team. Even if you can't make the walk itself, all team donations to the Step Up Walk go directly to supporting families in our community. There are also opportunities to participate as a vendor, exhibitor, or via sponsorship!
