Stroller Strides Family Class Fundraiser for June's Journey Home

Fit4Mom Davis is holding a special donation-based Stroller Strides family class and potluck for one of our members, Allison (Allie) Olson, on Saturday, September 15th at 9:15am with a suggested donation of $30 per family. All proceeds from the class will go directly towards funding “June’s Journey Home”.

Allison Olson and her family have a passion for people with special needs. It all began with her brother, Andrew, who is developmentally delayed and continues to be a shining bright light in their lives today. While most newlyweds enjoy a year or two or three on their own, Allie and her husband welcomed two best friends with special needs to live with them to help foster a successful environment for independent living. They met these inspirational gentlemen when they began volunteering as the track and field coaches for Team Davis, a non-profit organization that helps enrich the lives of children and adults with developmental, intellectual or physical disabilities. They have continued as coaches for more than 10 years now. Three years ago, Allie’s sister and her husband adopted a 2-year-old from Bulgaria with Down Syndrome and now Allie and Rob are following in their loving footsteps by adopting June, a beautiful 7-year-old girl with Down Syndrome from China. International adoption has come with its challenges, including China issuing new rulings that have delayed the adoption process for well over two years now. Every step brought more paperwork, roadblocks, and of course more financial expenses. When asked why they chose a foreign adoption instead of a domestic one; Allie explained that the conditions at orphanages in China can be harrowing and children with special needs are evicted from Chinese orphanages as young as 14 to fend for themselves alone without any support or resources. Allie and Rob have the ability to provide a wonderful life for June in a loving home with their two sons, Rowan, 4, and Liam, 3.

The Olsons’ still have $15,000 left to raise before they head to China this fall to open their home and their hearts to June. This event for the Olsons’ is another example of how Our Village and local community support such a worthy family on their selfless journey to finally bring their daughter home.
